Getting In Shape Both Physically
and Mentally For Today

Getting In Shape, how to work on ourselves physically and mentally for today's self improvement.

For the purposes of this website it deals with getting in shape for today and consists of weight loss , exercise, yoga to work on your strength and flexibility along with clearing your mind, eating healthy and having a positive mental attitude.

These are just the things that have worked for my wife and I while we are getting in shape and changing our lifestyles. I believe they can work for you too. I am not a workout trainer or a nutritionist, just someone that has found ways to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into our lives. Both Ruby and I have seen results by putting in a little extra effort and adding awareness to our eating habits.

I believe you have to have a good mental attitude along with motivation to get started in a weight loss program. And you definitely need motivation, time management and a good dose of inspiration to start and continue exercising. This is a life changing endeavor and that's why I call it a lifestyle change. This is something you will continue to do for the rest of your life to lose weight and to maintain it.

For losing weight or maintaining weight I believe in making a change of lifestyle instead of going on fad weight loss diets. I don't say or do diets. I change my lifestyle to include eating healthy and watching calories. What has helped with eating healthy are some healthy recipes that we have found and some Ruby and I have developed. This is what works for us and I believe it can and will work for you too. All it takes is a little discipline, a little sweat, a little hard work and a change of attitude and you can become the person you want to become.

Don't beat yourself up over missing a work out or eating to much. You are in it for the long haul and as long as you keep the end in mind you will reach your goals and live a better and healthier life.

For this change to work, think long term not overnight. I weigh myself each Monday morning and put it on the calendar so I can track my progress. As long as I am generally heading in the right direction (that is: losing weight and heading for my goal weight) then I am happy. Even if I happen to gain a pound or two one week I know I have to be more diligent in watching my calorie and fat intake the next week so I can start losing again.

Have a goal weight in mind before starting. It will help you decide on the weight loss

program or exercise and help with changing the way you eat and what you eat. Starting with the goal or end in mind will help motivate and sustain you during the set backs.

When Ruby and I started a new workout program we had to find the time to fit it into our day. You may have the same issue. I find it harder to do a workout at the end of the day because my energy level is lower and I have to schedule the workout around meals. We found that if we get up earlier in the day to do the workouts we can finish before breakfast and the start of our day and that seems to work out the best for us. The exercise energizes us for the day and doesn't interfere with anything else we have planned. This also works out pretty well when we travel. We do a modified version of the workout while on the road in the rooms we stay in.

One last thing I want to mention. I don't care what age you are or what level of physical fitness you're at it's never to late to start getting in shape. Make the decision to better your life and lets get physical. Remember "Don't Quit". You can and will have setbacks but as long as you stay positive and don't focus on the setbacks you will reach your goal weight and body. Don't forget to check with your family doctor before starting any physical workout or exercise program.
